FC Real went through to the Plate final of the Bayhill Premier Cup when the beat Wayside Wanders 2 – 0 at Erica Park.
FC Real coach expects a tricky final when they face Greenwood Athletic.
Coach Bevan Bowers explained how his team went about their achievement – a success that will, no doubt, place the club back on the football map and open up exciting opportunities for the youngers.
This was about planning, preparation, team work and mental strength ” said Bouwers. ” I knew that we would perhaps not be able to compete with some of the individual talent at the disposal of the big clubs, but we ensured that we had structure, that we kept shape and that our defensive organization was finely tuned.
“Then, and it’s another aspect that the academy clubs perhaps don’t have, we made sure that we created a spirit of brotherhood in our squad.
The team fought for each other, they dug deep during difficult moments. And importantly, the team ethic was always more important than the individual.
Bouwers a central defender who would go on to play for Hellenic and Santos. He is now carving his own path in the game.
In the other semi – final Greenwood Athletic beat Hellenic 1 – 0

Bayhill Premier Cup 2022 Day 2 – Stellies impress
The major talking point of day 2 at the Bayhill Premier Cup is the emergence of a strong candidate as a favourite in this year’s edition.
Stellenbosch FC scored three goals in their first match against JL Zwane on the A and showed their quality from start to finish. Although a team effort, performances by Devin Titus and Roy Keane Avontuur were a cut above the rest as Titus also scored for his side.
Other tournament hopefuls Ubuntu FC, Cape Town Spurs and defending champions Highlands Park, also look in contention based on their displays as they delivered match winning performances.
Local PSL representative, Cape Town City will have to raise their level if they have any hope of making a claim to 1 of the 2 available spots for the winners section in their group D.
Coach Byron Cottle from City felt his team were too slow in their build up and although City had most of the possession, they were not able to get behind the FN Rangers defence. He also felt the boys hadn’t transitioned from a normal league match time to the shorter time being played in a tournament.
FN Rangers lead the group with 6 points while Greenwood is in 2nd with 3 points after winning Pine Stars 4-0, leaving City and Pine Stars in the bottom 2.
Day 3 has much more in store as all teams have now played at least 1 match and will be putting the nerves aside and prove why the Premier Cup has the tagline, WHERE LEGENDS ARE BORN!!
